CMI Series III
1985
The Fairlight CMI Series III (1985) was a complete redesign that advanced the CMI to true 16-bit fidelity with sampling rates up to 100 kHz mono and over 90 dB dynamic range, delivering CD-quality audio. It used a rack-mounted central processor with up to 16-voice polyphony, large sample memory in 28 MB increments, and a weighted keyboard with aftertouch. It was the last of the classic Fairlight sampling workstations before the company pivoted to digital audio post-production.
