CMI Series II
1980
The Fairlight CMI Series II (1980) was the second-generation CMI, still 8-bit but with more processing power and a higher sample rate to reduce aliasing. Its landmark addition was 'Page R', the first graphical pattern-based real-time sequencer, which turned the instrument into a complete composition workstation. It became hugely influential in 1980s pop production despite a price around £30,000.
