Euphonix was founded in 1988 and became renowned for its high-end digital mixing consoles, particularly the System 5, which became a staple in film and television post-production. The company was acquired by Avid Technology in 2010, with the SC264 release coinciding with this transition period—hence the dual "Euphonix Avid" branding.
The SC264 served as the successor to earlier system computers like the SC263, providing the DSP backbone for Euphonix's modular console surfaces. These system computers were designed to be paired with control surfaces and I/O frames, separating the user interface from the audio processing engine.
Following Avid's acquisition, Euphonix console technology was gradually integrated into Avid's broader pro audio ecosystem. The S6 and S4 control surfaces, released in later years, represented Avid's evolution of this concept, though the Euphonix brand itself was eventually retired. The SC264 remains relevant in legacy installations that continue to operate System 5 consoles in professional post-production facilities.
