Euphonix was founded in 1988 in Mountain View, California by Scott Silfvast and Adam Reif, initially developing the Crescendo—the first successful line of large digitally controlled analog audio mixing consoles. The company later evolved to all-digital systems including the System 5.
In 2010, Euphonix was acquired by Avid Technology, Inc. The S5 CM401T installation manual was released in August 2010 (Document Revision A, Part Number 840-11307-01), by which time Euphonix was already operating as part of Avid, as indicated by the "Euphonix is Avid" branding throughout the documentation.
The System 5 represented Euphonix's transition from digitally controlled analog to fully digital mixing, competing in the high-end professional audio market for film, television, and music production. The modular design of the S5 surface allowed facilities to configure systems with various combinations of control modules including the CM401T master section.
