Audity
1980
The Audity was E-mu Systems' ambitious 16-voice polyphonic, digitally-controlled analog synthesizer prototype, built around 1979-1980 with a five-octave keyboard, a large blue acrylic control panel, and an outboard cabinet of eight analog voice cards. Developed with input from ex-Tangerine Dream member Peter Baumann and funded by E-mu's keyboard-scanning royalties from Sequential Circuits, it was exhibited around 1980 but never produced due to its staggering ~$69,200 projected price; only one was built. The research behind it led directly to the Drumulator and the Emulator.
