TheYamaha RM1xis agrooveboxmanufactured byYamahafrom 1999 to 2002. It integrates several, commonly separate, pieces of music composition and performance hardware into a single unit: a step-programmabledrum machine, asynthesizer, amusic sequencer, and a control surface. The front panel of the RM1x is angled slightly to facilitate tabletop use but Yamaha also produced an accessory to allowrack-mounting the unit.

OverviewThe Yamaha RM1X, released in 1998, was a dance music production workstation combining sequencing, sampling, and synthesis. This groovebox-style instrument offered pattern-based sequencing, extensive effects, and the ability to create complete dance tracks without additional equipment.
The RM1X featured real-time control knobs, a step sequencer, and comprehensive MIDI implementation. The instrument targeted dance music producers with its pattern chaining and performance features.
The RM1X competed with Roland's MC-series and Korg's Electribes in the late-1990s groovebox market. It represents Yamaha's contribution to the dance music production trend.
