Overview
The Yamaha PTX8, released in 1986, was a digital percussion tone generator module. This 1U rackmount unit offered PCM drum sounds with individual outputs and MIDI control. The PTX8 provided drum sounds for MIDI sequencing setups before comprehensive drum machines became standard.
The module featured 26 drum sounds with programmable tuning, decay, and level. The compact format made it ideal for studios requiring MIDI-controllable drums without the size of a full drum machine. The PTX8 exemplifies Yamaha's 1980s digital percussion technology.
