The UREI 1176 underwent numerous revisions during its production run, each with distinct sonic characteristics. Rev A (1967-1970) featured a Bluestripe faceplate and aggressive character. Rev D (1970-1973) became the classic 1176LN with black faceplate. Rev F (1973+) introduced further refinements for cleaner operation. Stam Audio developed the SA-76ADF to give engineers access to all three classic voicings in a single unit.

The Stam Audio SA-76ADF is a switchable revision 1176 compressor offering three distinct circuit voicings: Rev A (Bluestripe), Rev D, and Rev F. Each revision of the original 1176 had subtle but significant sonic differences due to component changes and circuit refinements over the years. The SA-76ADF lets engineers choose the perfect 1176 flavor for any source. Rev A (Bluestripe) offers the most aggressive, punchy character with higher harmonic distortion—ideal for drums and aggressive vocal treatment. Rev D provides the classic 1176LN sound with moderate coloration and versatile compression. Rev F delivers the cleanest, most transparent limiting with lower distortion and refined circuit design.
