The Stam Audio 312-5T is a discrete tube microphone preamplifier that takes the classic American API 312 sound to the next level. Often referred to as a "Turbo API," it retains the original's aggressive character while adding harmonic richness through an ECC82 tube output stage and a custom US-made 5:1 steel output transformer. Built around a reverse-engineered SA-25 discrete op-amp — an exact replica of the vintage API 2520 cards from the 1970s — the 312-5T delivers higher THD and a bigger low end than the original, making it ideal for recording electric guitars, drums, and hard vocals. Features include 70dB of gain, a custom US-made 1:8 input transformer, switchable impedance (300-1200 ohms), 48V phantom power, built-in DI, polarity switch, and a trim control. All components are hand-selected, including 1% tolerance resistors and Vishay/BC capacitors. Hand-assembled in Chile.

The 312-5T was developed to meet demand for API 312 sound in the popular 500 series format. API themselves offer 312-style modules, but Stam version provides the same sonic character at a more accessible price point. The module has become popular among engineers building high-channel-count drum recording systems in lunchbox configurations, where multiple 312-5T modules provide consistent API sound across all drum mics.
