Blue Devil

2024

The Stam Audio Blue Devil is a dual-stage tube preamplifier in 500-series format, designed with coloration and low end in mind. Essentially a tube version of the classic American 312 preamplifier, it retains the aggressive character of the original while adding further harmonic distortion and warmth through a second output stage based on an ECC83 tube and a US-made 5:1 nickel output transformer, paired with smoother-sounding 990 op-amps. The US-made 1:8 input transformer and Stam's reverse-engineered SA-99 discrete op-amp are exact replicas of the original components. The signal flows through the discrete op-amp into the ECC83 tube stage for additional coloration before hitting the nickel-lamination output transformer. Built with 1% tolerance resistors, Vishay capacitors, and the most accurate 2520 DOA replica available. Features include 48V phantom power, impedance switch, polarity switch, and a built-in DI. Ideal for electric guitars, drums, and hard vocals. Each unit is handmade in Chile with custom Stam aluminum knobs made in the EU.
