The Stam Audio 4K-5E is a stereo VCA buss compressor that recreates the legendary stereo buss compressor from the 1979 E-series console. Built around four discrete Stam Audio SA-202C VCAs — replicas of the DBX 202C — with hand-matched transistors, it delivers the classic glue and character that defines mix buss compression. True to the original E-series center section circuit and schematic, the 4K-5E offers 6 ratio settings (including a new 6:1 ratio), 8 release settings with additional 0.2ms, 0.9ms, and 1.2ms release times, and new 20ms and 50ms attack options. Modern enhancements include a Vintage/Modern mode switch, dry/wet mix blend control, and a stereo width control ranging from mono to super stereo. It features Elna Silmic capacitors — chosen after auditioning 16 brands for the widest frequency response — along with an SSL console-style gain reduction meter and Sifam knobs. Hand-assembled in Chile.
