TheRolandVK-7 is an electronic keyboard introduced in 1997 which simulates the sound of an electromechanicalHammond organ. Like other electronicmusical instrumentsthat emulate (or "clone") the sound of the electromechanical tonewheel-based organs formerly manufactured byHammond, the VK-7 is referred to as aclonewheel organ. Currently it is replaced by theVK-8and the VK-88.

OverviewThe Roland VK-7, released in 1997, was an entry-level virtual tonewheel organ combining Roland's VK organ technology with an affordable price. This 76-key instrument offered drawbar control, rotary speaker simulation, and comprehensive effects.
The VK-7 used Roland's Virtual Tonewheel modeling to emulate Hammond B-3 characteristics. The instrument targeted gigging musicians seeking organ sounds without the expense and maintenance of vintage instruments.
The VK-7 and subsequent VK-series instruments established Roland as a major player in the virtual organ market. The instrument's combination of authenticity and convenience appealed to working musicians.
