TheRoland TR-909 Rhythm Composer, commonly known as the909, is adrum machineintroduced byRoland Corporationin 1983, succeeding theTR-808. It was the first Roland drum machine to usesamplesfor some sounds, and the first withMIDIfunctionality, allowing it to synchronize with other devices. Though the 909 was a commercial failure, it influenced the development ofelectronic dance musicgenres such astechno,houseandacid house.
