The Ensoniq ASR-X is a tabletop sampling groovebox/drum station combining a 16-bit stereo sampler/resampler (44.1 kHz) with an MR-series synthesizer ROM, 32-voice polyphony, and 14 velocity-sensitive pads. It centers on a 16-track sequencer with tap tempo, 18 dB resonant analog-style filters, and an insert effects bus with 40 algorithms plus a separate reverb bus. With 2 MB standard (expandable) and a floppy drive, it was Ensoniq's bid to compete in the loop-based production market against the Akai MPC and Roland MC-505.
